Inspirations of Mayo Moreno Designer for Henry Glass Fabrics

My name is Mayo Moreno, and I’m a Colombian watercolor artist based in vibrant Chicago. I’m the creator of Safari of Ideas, a creative space where I share my love for painting, storytelling, and nature-inspired art.

My journey began in Argentina while I was studying design, and today I’m grateful to combine my background in visual arts with my passion for creating patterns and fabrics that carry a sense of magic and joy.

My biggest inspiration comes from the natural world — the lush mountains, jungles, colors, and folklore of Colombia, my homeland, are always present in my imagination. I’m also deeply inspired by everyday beauty: a walk in nature, the textures of the desert, the rhythm of music, or the wonder in my son’s eyes when he discovers something new. My design process begins with watercolor paintings, where I explore color palettes and textures, and then I translate these into fabric designs that invite others to feel connected to nature and creativity.

My newest collection, Magical Desert, is a celebration of warm tones, whimsical details, and the sense of wonder found in wide-open landscapes. The desert, for me, is not empty but full of textures, life, and hidden stories. Through watercolor, I created patterns that feel dreamy and versatile — from cacti decorated with playful details to abstract desert skies filled with stars. I imagine these fabrics being used for quilts, home décor, or clothing pieces that bring a touch of nature and imagination into people’s lives.

My advice is simple: trust your curiosity. Don’t worry about perfection in the beginning. Instead, let your creativity be playful, even messy. Every sketch, every brushstroke, every stitch is part of building your unique voice. Inspiration is everywhere, and the more you allow yourself to explore without fear, the stronger and more joyful your creative journey will become.
