Inspirations of Lucca Sheppard Designer for The Blank Quilting Corp.
Tell us about yourself.
I'm an artist and fabric designer with a deep passion for storytelling through pattern, texture, and color. My work blends traditional artistry with contemporary design, drawing inspiration from nature and culture to create textiles that are expressive and beautiful. With a strong foundation in visual art and surface design, I specialize in developing unique prints for fashion, interiors, and lifestyle products. Whether hand-painted or digitally rendered, my designs aim to bring beauty into everyday spaces.
What inspires you?
As a fabric designer, I find inspiration in the quiet details of everyday life—organic forms in nature, the rhythm of playful patterns. I’m drawn to the stories they tell, and the interplay of color and light found in natural environments. My creative process often begins with sketching and collecting references that evoke a mood and sense of cohesive flow. From there, I transform those impressions into patterns. Designing fabric is, for me, a way to translate emotion into something tactile—something that people can wear, live with, and connect to on a personal level.
Tell us about your fabric.
My fabric designs are a fusion of art and storytelling—each pattern crafted with intention and a deep appreciation for texture, form, and color. I draw from a diverse palette of inspiration, including nature and motifs translating them into prints that feel both fluid and contemporary. My work often features hand-drawn elements, organic shapes, and layered compositions that invite closer exploration. My collections are diverse, from a playful backyard BBQ to a religious motif, I am inspired by all of God's beauty.
What advice do you have for the new maker?
To the next fabric designer stepping into this vibrant world—stay curious and stay true to your creative intuition. Fabric design is more than just pattern-making; it’s storytelling through texture, color, and form. Don’t be afraid to experiment, make mistakes, and find beauty in imperfection. Study the world around you—nature, architecture, people, history—and let those observations inform your work. Great design takes time, and your unique perspective is your greatest asset. Keep creating, and let your passion lead the way.
