Fabric Requirements:
- 1/4 yard (.23m) Fabric A – Star Flower-Cream/Red
- 5/8 yard (.57m) Fabric B – Zig Zag Texture-Navy
- 1/3 yard (.30m) Fabric C – Jigsaw Swirl-Navy
- 1/4 yard (.23m) Fabric D – Star Flowers-Red
- 1/4 yard (.23m) Fabric E – Zig Zag Texture-Cream/Red
- 1/4 yard (.23m) Fabric F – Churn Dash-Navy
- 1/4 yard (.23m) Fabric G – Jigsaw Swirl-Red
- 1/4 yard (.23m) Fabric H – Windowpane Plaid-Light Blue

Equipment Needed:
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Matching Threads
- Fusible Web- 1/4 yard
- Sharpie Ultra Fine marker
- Optional-Top Stitch Foot
- Quarter Inch Foot
- Open Toe Foot
Cutting Instructions:
From Star Flower – Cream/Red (A), cut:
- (1) 4 ½” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (4) 4 ½” x 6 ½” strips and (2) 2 ⅞” squares.
- (1) 2 ½” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (4) 2 ½” squares.
Zig Zag Texture – Navy (B), cut:
- (1) 3 ½” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (2) 3 ½” x 15 ½” strips.
- (3) 3 ½” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 3 ½” x 45 ½” strips.
- (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (2) 2 ⅞” squares and (8) 2 ½” squares.
Jigsaw Swirl – Navy (C), cut:
- (1) 4 ½” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (6) 4 ½” x 6 ½” strips.
- (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip. (4) 2 ⅞” squares, and (6) 2 ½” squares.
Star Flowers – Red (D), cut:
- (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (2) 2 ⅞” squares and (8) 2 ½” squares.
Zig Zag Texture – Cream/Red (E)
- Cut (1) 4 ½” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (2) 4 ½” x 6 ½” strips, (1) 2 ⅞” square, and (2) 2 ½” squares.
Churn Dash – Navy (F)
- Cut (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (1) 2 ⅞” square and (4) 2 ½” squares.
Jigsaw Swirl – Red (G)
Cut (1) 2 ⅞” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (2) 2 ⅞” squares and (4) 2 ½” squares.
Window Pane Plaid – Light Blue (H)
- See instructions to cut (3) Stars.
Star Stripe – Cream (I)
- Cut (2) 2” x 39 ½” WOF strips.
- Cut (1) 2” x WOF strip. Sub-cut (2) 2” x 12 ½” strips.
Churn Dash – Red (J)
- Cut (4) 2 ½” x WOF strips for the binding.
Backing – (Your Choice)
- Cut (1) 59” x 29” WOF strip for the back.
Instructions:
Runner Assembly
1. Place (1) 2 ½” Fabric B square on the top left corner of (1) 4 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric A strip, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line across the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner.
2. Sew across the diagonal of the small square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle 1/4" away from the sewn seam to make (1) Unit 1 rectangle. Repeat to make (4) Unit 1 rectangles total.
3. Repeat Steps 1and 2 using (2) 4 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric E rectangles and (2) 2 ½” Fabric F squares to make (2) Unit 2 rectangles.
4. Repeat Steps 1and 2 using (4) 4 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric C rectangles and (4) 2 ½” Fabric D squares to make (4) Unit 3 rectangles.
5. Repeat Steps 1and 2 using (2) 4 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric C rectangles and (2) 2 ½” Fabric G squares to make (2) Unit 4 rectangles.
6. Place (1) 2 7/8” Fabric A square on top of (1) 2 7/8” Fabric B square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner. Sew 1/4” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line. Cut the (2) squares apart on the drawn diagonal line to make (2) half-square triangles. Trim the blocks to measure 2 ½” square to make (2) Unit 5 squares. Repeat to make (4) Unit 5 squares total.
7. Repeat Step 6 using (1) 2 7/8” Fabric E square and (1) 2 7/8” Fabric F square to make (2) Unit 6 squares.
8. Repeat Step 6 using (2) 2 7/8” Fabric D square and (2) 2 7/8” Fabric C square to make (2) Unit 7 squares. Repeat to make (4) Unit 7 squares total.
9. Repeat Step 6 using (1) 2 7/8” Fabric G square and (1) 2 7/8” Fabric C square to make (2) Unit 8 squares.
10. Sew (1) 2 ½” Fabric B square, (1) 2 ½” Fabric A square and (1) Unit 5 square together in that order from left to right.
11. Sew the newly sewn strip to the top of (1) Unit 1 rectangle lengthwise to make (1) Unit 9 square. Repeat to make (4) Unit 9 squares total.
12. Repeat Steps 10 and 11 using (1) 2 ½” Fabric C square, (1) 2 ½” Fabric D square (1) Unit 7 square and (1) Unit 3 rectangle to make (4) Unit 11 squares.
13. Sew (1) Unit 9 square to the left side of (1) Unit 11 square. Repeat to make a second strip. Paying attention to the orientation of the strips, sew the (2) strips together lengthwise to make (1) 12 ½” Block One square. Repeat to make a second (2) Block One square.
14. Repeat Steps 10 and 11 using (1) 2 ½” Fabric F square, (1) 2 ½” Fabric E square (1) Unit 6 square and (1) Unit 2 rectangle to make (2) Unit 10 squares.
15. Repeat Steps 10 and 11 using (1) 2 ½” Fabric C square, (1) 2 ½” Fabric G square (1) Unit 4 square and (1) Unit 4 rectangle to make (2) Unit 12 squares.
16. Sew (1) Unit 10 square to the left side of (1) Unit 12 square. Repeat to make a second strip. Paying attention to the orientation of the strips, sew the (2) strips together lengthwise to make (1) 12 ½” Block Two square.
17. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, trace the listed number of each template [American Dream Star Template] onto the paper side of the fusible web.
18. Roughly cut out each template about 1/8” outside the drawn lines. Press each template onto the wrong side of the fabrics as listed on the templates. Cut out each template on the drawn lines.
19. Arrange and press (1) star to the center of (1) Block One square.
20. Finish the raw edges of each shape with a decorative stitch such as a buttonhole or satin stitch.
21. Repeat Steps 19 and 20 to the remaining Block One square and (1) Block Two square.
22. Sew (1) Block One square to each side of the Block Two square to make (1) 36 ½” x 12 ½” Center Block.
Quilt Top Assembly Instructions:
23. Sew (1) 2” x 12 ½” Fabric I strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2” x 39 ½” Fabric I strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.
24. Sew (1) 3 ½” x 15 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 3 ½” x 45 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the Runner Top.
25. Layer and quilt as desired.
26. Sew the (4) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric J strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.
27. Bind as desired.
