Inspirations of Angel Nicole Designer for the Blank Quilting Corp.

Tell us about yourself.

Hi, I'm Angel, a freelancer focusing on illustration and fine art. I currently live in Minnesota with my kind husband and our 3 adorable kids. I stumbled upon surface pattern design around 2016, inspired by a blog (ironic, I know) showcasing their beautiful work and inspiring collaborations. Despite no formal training, I've honed my skills through online tutorials, Skillshare classes, and lots of practice.

What inspires you?

My inspiration comes from various sources, including browsing stores, observing nature, and exploring the internet. I find well-designed spaces particularly inspiring. I also enjoy vintage art and contemporary artists who place a modern twist on classic illustrations. Discovering a good color palette also excites me to create, and is my favorite part of designing.

Tell us about your fabric.

My new fabric collection created for the Blank Quilting Corp, Lettuce Make Peas, is now available for purchase! It began by telling a little story of a garden and what it takes to make one. The collection features a cute bunny character, exuding positivity with every smile.

I enjoyed illustrating the little details from the scribble-coloring book look to the tiny happy faces on each object which adds a whimsical touch. I envision this versatile collection on an array of things such as kitchen textiles, dresses, blankets, and aprons. With aspirations of becoming a children's book illustrator, this collection pays homage to that cherished interest.

What advice do you have for the new maker?

For new makers, my advice is simple: just begin! Explore different mediums to find your passion. Avoid comparing yourself to seasoned artists; instead, be inspired, ask questions, and have fun. There's no need to monetize every skill immediately. Pursue your hobby for the love of it, and let success come naturally without undue pressure.
