This is an advanced beginner project for you that gives you the opportunity to try out these beautiful fabrics and make a simple scrappy half hexie quilt top.

Skills Learned: This project will teach you how to use a template, cut pieces on an angle, and see how multiple pieces of fabric can be used in a unique, scrappy pattern. You will learn how to make a quilt top with confidence!

Finished Size: 48” x 56” (121.92cm x 142.24cm)

Fabric Requirements:

1 Jelly Roll or (40) 2.5” (6.35cm) x WOF strips - Joy of Color Fabric Collection. I used all the SKUs and cut 2-3 strips from each fabric:

2860-77 Blue Large Medallions
2861-22 Raspberry Ombre Dots
2861-77 Blue Ombre Dots
2862-22 Raspberry Squiggle Lines
2862-55 Purple Squiggle Lines
2862-67 Teal Squiggle Lines
2863-22 Raspberry Geometric Squares
2864-22 Raspberry Tonal Medallions
2864-33 Orange Tonal Medallions
2864-67 Teal Tonal Medallions
2865-77 Blue Linked Circles
2866-50 Lilac Rainbow Ovals
2867-55 Purple Rainbow Flowers
2868-77 Blue Abstract Dots

Backing - 3.5 yd (3.20m)

Binding - 0.5 yd (.46m) at 2.5" (6.35cm) strips

Note: Instructions for applying the backing and binding are not included in this tutorial.

Equipment needed:

De-wrinkle spray/starch and ironing station
Cutting mat and rotary cutter
Ruler
Fabric marking pen (optional)
Clips or pins (optional)
Half Hexie template (optional)
**if you don’t have the template, create a paper template using Diagram 1 as a guide.
**this pattern can use Jelly Rolls, Yardage, or Scraps

To Note Before You Start:

Starch and press all fabric before cutting
WOF = Width of Fabric
Pattern assumes WOF to be 40”
All seam allowances are 1⁄4”
Press all seams open to reduce bulk in corners of the blocks

Carefully read all instructions before beginning

There is no margin for error on these fabric requirements! You may need additional yardage or Jelly Rolls for directional fabric or if you plan to fussy-cut

Fabric requirements are listed for any 40” WOF quilting fabric

Instructions:

Cut:
1. Cut (360) half hexie pieces of varied colors of fabric, as Diagram 2. You will get 9 hexies from each strip.
