Inspirations of Jen Bucheli Designer for Blank Quilting Corp.

Tell us about yourself.

I'm Jen Bucheli, I live west of Orlando, Florida with my husband and 3 children. I have two adult daughters and a son in Middle School. I have always been creative and majored in art in college. I was a Floral Designer for a special event company in Orlando for years until I made the choice to stay home with my young children.

Since then, I've done a variety of creative ventures. Since 2018 I've been making art along with my daughter Amaya and we sell prints, cards, stickers, wrapping paper and more on Etsy and our website amayajadeandco.com

I always loved traditional art like watercolor and collage, but in the past few years I got into creating art on the iPad with Procreate and I really love it! I am fairly new to creating repeating patterns but it is so addictive and fun! I have two fabric lines with Blank Quilting Corp. and hope to have more in the future!

What inspires you?

I love nostalgia, and it drives me to create art from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.  My favorites are Mid-Century Modern style and the 80s. I love to create collections of things such as coffee pots, vintage bathing suits, or nostalgic things from a specific decade that sparks memories in the viewer.  The collections that I create often just lend themselves to being made into repeating patterns so I set about to learn how to make them. It is a satisfying process! I just love seeing my art on fabric, it makes my heart happy.

Tell us about your fabric.

I have two collections of fabric available now with Blank Quilting Corp. One is the "You Grow Girl" line and the other is "Diners and Drive-ins".

I'm a plant lover and have quite the collection of house plants at home so this line was natural for me. I have loved 50's style since I was in high school and old diners are magical to me. I wanted to bring back those feelings of nostalgia with the diner art. They are such a great place to hang out and enjoy a meal or a soda with friends and listen to some tunes on the jukebox. Simpler times! I love the bag project that @sew_avant_garde on Instagram made with the "You Grow Girl" fabric line. She is amazing!

What advice do you have for the new maker?

I would tell you to just do it and stay true to yourself.  Don't let anyone tell you you can't do something or that you have to do what the trends are. You can make what you like to make and you will find your people.

Try to do something creative every single day, it keeps your mind inspired and your soul happy.  It took me a long time to find my niche but just keep going, you will find it!
