Combine adventure-themed fabrics to create a great accent piece for a child’s bed and the perfect mini-body pillow for naptime, watching TV or traveling in the car. Add an applique initial to personalize. The Loving Camp Life Collection by Emily Dumas with its colorful whimsical designs is perfect for this project.

Fabric A (center front and left and right strips) 3/8 yard (.34m)
Fishing Lures Green – 186-66
Fabric B (front strips) 3/8 yard (.34m)
Canoes and Camp Motifs Beige – 177-40
Fabric C (pillow back) 3/4 yard (.69m) and applique
Animal Faces Gold – 181-44
Fusible Interfacing
12” x 24” (30.48cm x 60.96cm) pillow insert
Thread to match
CUTTING
Fabric A:
Cut (2) 4” x 13” strips
Cut (1) 9” x 13” rectangle
Fabric B:
Cut (2) 4” x 13” strips
Fabric C:
Cut (2) 12” x 16” rectangles
Use remainder for applique
SEWING DIRECTIONS
Note: all seams are ½” unless otherwise noted
Appliqué:
Preparing the applique. Enlarge a letter of your choice on your computer and print out to use as a pattern (letter should be about 5” tall)
Apply fusible interfacing to the WRONG SIDE of applique fabric following manufacturer’s directions. Trace letter onto the fabric and cut out.
Pillow Front:
Center the applique on the center panel of the pillow front and fuse in place following manufacturer’s directions. Set machine to a zig zag stitch and stitch along all edges of your letter. Note: This may also be done on an embroidery machine using an applique font.
With right sides together, pin Fabric B strips to each long edge of the center rectangle. Stitch and press seams open.
With right sides together pin each end strip to Fabric B strips. Stitch and press seams open.
Pillow Back:
Turn under and press a ½” double fold hem along one short edge of each back piece. Stitch in place close to edge.
Overlap pillow back pieces by 4” right side to wrong side and baste in place.
Complete the Pillow:
Pin pillow front and back with right sides together. Stitch along all edges. Trim corners diagonally.
Turn right side out and press. Insert pillow form.
